KMG Gold Recycling X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, or XRF technology bombards a metal item with X-rays and measures the amount of X-rays reflected back. The machine then compares "known" values for specific elements and determines what each of the elements are in the item with an accuracy of 0.01%. A gold ring, for example, may contain 41% gold, 10% silver, 45% copper and 4% zinc.
